20 Hours in Siskiyou

By Charlie Pankey | Sierra Rec Magazine

Waterfalls brought me back to this corner of Northern California. A night in Dunsmuir, beside the young Upper Sacramento, gave me a reason to return.

I left Lassen Volcanic National Park with a long drive still ahead of me and a fairly simple idea for my final night on the road. I would follow the Volcanic Legacy route into Siskiyou County, see McCloud Falls, stay in Dunsmuir, eat a good dinner and continue toward Washington the next morning. I had talked with the Siskiyou County visitors team on Sierra Rec Now earlier in the summer, and the conversation had reminded me how long it had been since I had given this area more than a passing glance.
